“Today, Hindus, Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs across Canada and throughout the world mark the great festival of Diwali – the Festival of Lights. This event celebrates the triumph of inner light over spiritual darkness!
“Rooted in thousands of years of tradition, Diwali is observed by billions worldwide. Diyas are lit, as houses and temples are decorated with Rangolis. Together, we honour the lasting truth that no matter how hard times may be, hope always shines through, knowledge wins over ignorance and justice prevails.
“Here in Canada, Canadians of South Asian heritage have preserved and continue to joyously celebrate these traditions. They continue to make great contributions to this country, whether they are hard-working business owners, doctors or engineers.
“To all celebrating, may your Diwali be filled with joy, fireworks, gifts and sweets. May you be blessed with wealth and prosperity through your prayers. And may the light of the Diya encourage you in your pursuit of enlightenment and wisdom.
